Madrid Engineering Group: CHOCTAWHATCHEE BAY GEOTECHNICAL DRILLING
As we previously informed you, MEG teamed with Skanska and Parsons Brinkerhoff in pursuit of the SR-83/US-331 Design-Build project, a bridge replacement, over Choctawhatchee Bay, for FDOT…
The field activities (geotechnical drilling and collection of the bulk samples) are well underway. Since we started with the project in late July, we completed about 11,800 linear feet of drilling, most of which are being completed by a truck-mounted drill set up on a barge, and we collected all of the bulk samples. Boreholes are positioned using the tugboat and located in the field using a GPS unit.
Our Panama City office is challenged with all of the geotechnical drilling, while the laboratory soil testing for this project is being done at our CMEC and FDOT certified laboratory at our Bartow headquarters.
We are expecting a completion of the barge drilling portion of the project before the end of October 2013 ahead of the originally planned schedule.
We will keep you updated on the progress of this job in our newsletter.
